Attendance Policy
GOOD
ATTENDANCE
Good
attendance has been rewarded by teachers and administrators. Classes
have received a variety of rewards for 100% attendance. Individual
students also receive special awards throughout the year and at the
end of the year for perfect attendance.
ABSENCES
Students
are expected to be in school everyday day except in cases of extreme
emergency or for reasons as explained below. The following lists the
only legal excuses for absence to school:
- Personal
illness – the school may require the certificate of a doctor if it
is deemed advisable.
- Death
of a student’s parent or guardian.
The
following lists excuses that will be deemed “unexcused”:
- Family
vaccinations that are taken during the school year.
- Baby-sitting
for brothers or sisters.
- Household
duties, such as cleaning or washing clothes.
Steps
to follow when absent:
- Have
parent or guardian phone the school the day of the absence before
9:30 am (535-1060). If the students is absent more than one day,
the parent should call each day.
- Have
parent or guardian write an excuse giving your name, date of
absence, reason for absence and his/her signature.
- Present
note to classroom teacher. The names of absent students will be
picked up daily and parents will be contacted to verify absences.
*It
is the student’s responsibility to make up all assige3nments,
projects, and tests he/she missed during the absence.
TRUANCY
If
the school does not receive a call form the parent and a written note
explain the student’s absence, the student will be marked “Truant.”
Truancy violates state and local attendance laws and will be
considered a serious offense. Continued truancy may result in legal
action.
TARDINESS
Promptness
to class is very important. Students are to be in their seats and
ready to work when the bell sounds. If the student is tardy to
school, he/she must report to the office. Tardiness without parental
consent and office notification will considered truant. Repeated
tardiness will result in a detention and/or parent notification
through the attendance officer.
EARLY
DISMISSAL
Parents
are urged to leave their children in school all day. Doctor’s
appointment ors other appointments should be schedule outside school
hours and on school holidays whenever possible. If a child needs to
be dismissed early, he or she must bring a note to the teacher
stating the date, time, and reason. Parents must sign out in the
office before they will be allowed to leave the building.
DISMISSAL
At
dismissal, all students are to leave the school ground promptly at
the end of the school day unless they are attending an after school
program or are assigned detention. Students are NOT to cross in the
middle of the street. NO former students are allowed to pick up
younger siblings unless parents have registered them in the office.
Parents/visitors are NOT ALLOWED to park in the teacher’s lot.
